RECORDING YOUR DEMO

IT'S A BIG INVESTMENT. HOW DO I KNOW IF I'M READY TO RECORD MY DEMO?

If you got an audition tomorrow for a national network commercial or for the lead in the next hit animated series, you feel super confident you could self-tape an audition competitive with an industry veteran, or you at the very least feel like you could give it a solid try, that's a good sign you might be ready.

But truth be told, I cannot answer this question for you. I can give you my opinion, but you have to decide for yourself if your work is on par with folks working today. Are you aware of who those people are and what they sound like? Have you listened to professional reels? Can you name three busy voice actors and agencies? If not, start here.

Beware of coaches who keep you on the hook for years of private coaching. I had that coach once. I ran out of money and thought that voiceover just wasn't for me. Or I just wasn't for VO. Years later, with many twists and turns, I've got a pretty solid career.

The best advice I have is: do your research and trust your gut.

Your first VO demo, if you're looking to get an agent, should be a commercial demo. Agents want to hear your natural voice, and that's what your commercial demo will deliver.

Included in my commercial demo package is:

  • 1 hour prep session

  • copy written for and tailored specifically to you (and not used on any other client demos)

  • recording session (allow 2 hours) *during COVID-19, recording is done remotely via ipDTL and requires a home studio setup

  • edit, music, and mix

  • 1 hour post-demo consult / marketing session where we discuss how to go approach next steps in your voiceover career
