VO CLASSES and COACHING
Group Classes | Private Coaching | Demo Production
in Los Angeles and Online
*** During the COVID-19 safer at home order in Los Angeles and until further notice, all coaching, audition and demo recordings will be done remotely via Zoom and ipDTL. This works out quite well, as our entire business has moved to remote production, with voice talent recording not only auditions but now jobs from their home studios. Coaching from your home studio has the added bonus of prepping you to do the same. (fully-equipped home studio not required to begin coaching-- we will discuss how to set yourself up during your coaching sessions.)
HOW DO I GET INTO VO?
In general, do some coaching, make a demo, look for an agent. First and foremost: find the right coach for you. Ask your friends for referrals. It might be me. It might be someone else. If it's me, let's have a chat, see if we click, and get to work!
THERE ARE SO MANY COACHES, HOW ARE YOU DIFFERENT?
I've worked with many coaches in New York and LA. Having started in your shoes, and currently working as voice artist and director, I offer the most practical approach in either town. I coach on what works in my own VO career: with a full toolbox, you're ready for anything. As you rarely know who your director will be, there is no one-size-fits-all method or technique. Together, we hone in on your unique style and how to tailor it to any product or show, and how to work with whatever is thrown your way on or off the mic.

BUT WAIT! I ONLY WANT TO DO CARTOONS!
You can certainly make an animation demo -- it's a fun way to show off your range of characters and submit to people you know in the industry. But if you're on the path to landing a voiceover agent, a commercial demo is your first step, as that's what agents want to hear to get to know you.
ARE YOU READY TO RECORD YOUR DEMO?
D E M O
(let's check in)
If you got an audition tomorrow for a national network commercial or for the lead in the next Bob's Burgers, do you feel confident that you could self-tape an audition competitive with someone who's been in the business for 20 years?
If your answer is YES, let's talk about scheduling your demo recording.
If your answer is NOT YET, repeat level 2 or schedule private coaching until you can answer yes. It likely wont be much longer!
If these voiceover lessons are your first foray into the entertainment industry, I strongly suggest improv or acting classes. Most agents will require at least two classes beyond voiceover training. Your demo is an investment of time and money, and there's no need to rush it. Set yourself up for success!
It's also never a bad idea to work with a number of different coaches -- try see what it's like to be directed by other folks. You'll work with scores of different directors throughout your career; working with different teachers or coaches is a great way to prep for that. I'm happy to recommend other coaches in New York or Los Angeles.

T E S T I M O N I A L S
Robin was able to bring me out of my head and into the moment with precise and engaging direction. With impact and patience, she has an amazing ability to translate her skill set to a novice. I felt more confident with every class, and I truly found my voice and look forward to the future knowing she is a friend and confidant! I stood out to an agency after taking Robin's class. I owe a huge thank you to her for her part in changing my career! Her private coaching is the most effective and affordable class I've taken in Los Angeles. She's fucking funny and has a lovely disposition.
Robin Reed cuts through the mystique of voice acting and gives you just what you need to know, allowing you to find your own creativity within the process. Her laid-back attitude belies real expertise and insight into the industry as a prolific working actress. An excellent technological guide, Robin shows you exactly what tools you need to set up your home studio or create your very own online web cartoon without breaking your back or your wallet. Thanks to Robin, I'm creating an animated series and producing my own audiobook narration. Above all, Robin is delightfully funny and creates an enjoyable, relaxed atmosphere for learning and practice. No judgement. Sometimes snacks. Always fun!
creator/voice, Ask A Hamster
Robin is fan-damn-tastic! She, as a human being, is incredibly warm and inviting, so she can't keep her personality from spilling over into her process. She's a strong voice and a good handle how to direct people, so you leave her fully prepared to for what's expected of you professionally. She's whip smart, offers her years of experience and knowledge to be at your disposal. Best of all, Robin will be your number one cheerleader as you navigate your way through the industry. Whether you're brand new to VO, or you're an old hand but your demo needs an update, you'll find Robin an extremely easy and fun person with whom to work.
I had zero experience with voiceover prior to working with Robin. I needed a lot of guidance and Robin definitely delivered that in a very pragmatic way. In her classes, you record a lot, and, though it may be challenging and even scary at first, Robin provides a very safe and comfortable space to try out new techniques and voices. She really knows exactly what to say to get the most out of your performance. That's really what I took away from her intro class - you can have a Sam Elliott caliber voice but the performance is what matters. You can vastly improve your level of performance by working with a coach like Robin. I certainly felt like I did.
The Improv Space
Robin has helped me find the voice(s) I knew I had but didn’t have the technique, tools or experience to get to them. But I do now! Her direction is amazing to get you to be able to knock it out on your own two feet so you can find your A-Game in the big, bad world of voiceover.
