One-on-One Coaching

Demo Production

in Los Angeles and online.

Throughout my career as a voice actor, I’ve worked with many coaches in New York and Los Angeles. I’ve studied and put into practice what works for me, left behind a lot, and honed the tools in my toolbox from booth to booth.

As a coach, I offer the most practical approach to auditioning and working as a voiceover artist in today’s market.

I don’t teach a method or technique, as I’ve never experienced VO as a one-size-fits-all affair. Rather, I help you develop what I use in my own career: a very full toolbox. Since you have a different director on nearly every job, you need to be prepared for everything– I prepare you for the… less-than-stellar director.

I am actively tuned into what is on trend in commercial, promo, narration, animation, and video games. Together, we hone in on your unique voice and how to tailor it to any product or show, and how to work with whatever is thrown your way, on or off the mic.

Interested in a group class? For info and to register, please visit The Pack Theater. Sessions are offered via Zoom so you can participate from anywhere in the world— we’ve had students dial in from Australia, South Africa, South Korea, and states from Hawaii to Connecticut!

  • Am I ready to record my demo?

Only you can answer that question. To start, ask yourself this: if you got an audition tomorrow for a national network commercial or for a series regular in the next hit animated series, do you feel super confident you could self-tape an audition competitive with an industry veteran? If you err on the side of humility, do you, at the very least, feel like you could give it a solid try?

If the answer to either of these questions is an enthusiastic “yes!” then you might be ready.

All demo packages include one 1-hour prep session, copy to be used on your demo only, recording, music, and mix. Commercial Demo includes a marketing session. Industry standard is such that every genre of VO requires a separate demo. To get started on producing a demo with Robin Reed, either book a consult or book your demo prep session.

Coaching FAQ

  • In general, do some coaching, make a demo, look for an agent. First and foremost: find the right coach for you. You can check the Voiceover Resource Guide, and be sure to ask your friends for referrals.

To find if you and I might be a good fit for coaching, let's have a chat and see if we click.

  • If we don’t already know each other, please start with a consultation. From there, I’ll can get a better idea of where you’re at, and you can get an idea of how I work.

You’re going to spend a fair amount of time, energy, and, frankly, money with your coach. Make sure it’s someone you trust and who brings out your best work.

  • If you got an audition tomorrow for a national network commercial or for the lead in the next animated hit, do you feel confident that you could self-tape an audition competitive with someone who's been in the business for 20 years?

If your answer is YES, let's talk about scheduling your demo recording.

If your answer is NOT YET, you may want to do a group class or some private coaching sessions until you can answer yes. It likely wont be much longer!

If these voiceover lessons are your first foray into the entertainment industry, I strongly suggest improv or acting classes. Most agents will require at least two performance classes beyond voiceover training, and it’s assumed most performers will have at least some improv training.

Your demo is an investment of time and money, and there's no need to rush it. Set yourself up for success!

It's also never a bad idea to work with a number of different coaches - see what it's like to be directed by more than the one person you’ve gotten comfortable with! You'll work with scores of different directors throughout your career; working with different teachers or coaches is a great way to prep for that. I'm happy to recommend other coaches in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

  • You can certainly make an animation demo -- it's a fun way to show off your range of characters and submit to people you know in the industry. But if you're on the path to landing a voiceover agent, a commercial demo is your first step, as that’s what agents want to hear to assess your 'natural' vocal range and reads and decide if there’s a spot for you on their roster.
